Program Overview

The mission of the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Screening Team at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) is to ensure all military personnel, civilians (DoD and contractors) and coalition military personnel who are medevac’d from theater for Operation New Dawn/Operation Enduring Freedom (OND/OEF) will undergo TBI screening before returning to duty or being sent back to the continental United States (CONUS). OND/OEF is defined as those patients who are medevac’d from Iraq, Afghanistan, Horn of Africa (Djibouti), Kuwait, Qatar and Dubai. In addition, Kosovo and Bosnia fall under Joint Guardian and are included under the OND/OEF umbrella.
The mission of the Intensive Rehabilitation TBI Program “Synapse” at LRMC is to help patients return to duty and/or maximize their quality of life and recovery of function. To accomplish this mission, team members evaluate the patient’s needs and work with the patient to develop a comprehensive plan of services upon preliminary acceptance into the Synapse Program. The Synapse plan is then evaluated during treatment and summarized upon completion of the program.
