Fort Hood, TX: Local DVBIC Activities

The Fort Hood site of the DVBIC extends the overall Center’s mission of providing Education, and Clinical Care services concerning traumatic brain injury to our region’s active, reserve, guard and community populations. This is accomplished through close command and community contact, integration of clinical care coordination with the healthcare delivery system, both on post and in the community network.

The TBI system of care at Fort Hood begins in the soldier readiness process (SRP) upon a soldier’s return from deployment. TBI screenings are conducted at this time. Those soldiers screening positive for concussion receive a referral for the Level II TBI center. Here, a full history and physical are obtained and concussion related symptoms are addressed. Most of the service members with concussion are managed in this clinic. However, those with more significant or complex problems are referred to the Level III TBI clinic. This clinic is supported by DVBIC and offers the following services:

Education and Outreach:
  • Patient and family education
  • Healthcare provider education
  • Professional & ancillary staff education
Clinical Care:
  • Diagnosis of concussion/TBI
  • Management of symptoms
    • Headache
    • Fatigue
    • Cognition
    • Sleep disturbances
  • Serves as referral clinic for the evaluation and management of service members with complex TBI needs.
  • Serves as direct access point for incoming medevacs.
