DVBIC-Johnstown: About Us

Our Organization

DVBIC-Johnstown TBI Rehabilitation Programs is the combination of multiple sites in Johnstown, PA. These sites include a community re-entry program and outpatient services.

We are committed to improving the lives of military personnel, veterans, and their beneficiaries with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) by maximizing independence and facilitating re-entry into family and community life. Our treatment programs are client- and family-centered, transdisciplinary, and innovative.

“Laurel Highlands Neuro-Rehabilitation Center”, only the second civilian site to become a core DVBIC site, was founded in 2006 in Johnstown, PA to provide community integrated rehabilitation through a transitional living program and a day treatment program. In October of 2008, Laurel Highlands combined services with the outpatient clinic to become “DVBIC-Johnstown TBI Rehabilitation Programs”.

Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC)

DVBIC-Johnstown is part of the national Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center, which was originally established in 1992 as the "Defense and Veterans Head Injury Program." DVBIC is a group of multi-site TBI programs in Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals and civilian TBI rehabilitation programs.

In 2007, DVBIC became the TBI operational component of the newly established Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury.
